CUP Mens U-20 in Super-20 League North American Finals
The CUP Mens U-20 squad, coached by Terry Nicholl, was in Chicago for the Super-20 League North American Finals. The top teams in North America were on hand for some top notch matches. The CUP squad opened with Red Bull New York and after going to the half scoreless, they got in control of the match after a red card reduced the Red Bulls to 10 men, only to find themselves down 1-0 a short time later. Jordan Grant's goal would draw things level once again, but a late breakaway would see them fall 2-1. Next up was Poway Vaqueros in a spirited match that saw the CUP squad in control. A goal from Steven Schaeffer was all they would need to take this one 1-0. Their third prelim had them in the hunt for the semi-finals, facing Alpharetta United. This one was never in doubt as they took it 3-1 on goals by Schaeffer, Grant, and Brandon Stegmeier. They found themselves at 2-1-0 overall, tied with the squad that bettered them, but just short on points and goal differential to advance to the semi-finals over Red Bull New York, Chivas USA, DC United, and Chicago Fire. Regardless, it was a great display by the CUP Men and we can all be very proud of their performance. Congratulations to Coach Nicholl and the entire CUP squad!
