Ohio House Bill 143 went into affect on April 26th, 2013. It is a concussion law that is designed to keep our children safe. The law impacts every sport and every association in Ohio. As it pertains to the membership we serve, each league and each association may have their own paperwork requirements. As these requirements continue to trickle in, we feel compelled to share what we know with certainty.

Coaches, trainers, parents, and/or players will receive direct emails from the league(s) they are participating in with their own requirements. Some league members already have. The goals of this letter is to provide our membership with a broad overview of what will be occurring, and connect our membership with the resources and information they need if they want to learn more independently.

The safety of our players is our priority. How the legislation requires coaches and referees to treat players in the future is not any different than how our organization has required our coaches to treat players in the past.

We hope this letter prepares our coaches and trainers for the certification requirements soon to come from our league(s)/association(s), and helps our parents understand any current or future correspondence they may see from various leagues or associations regarding Ohio’s new concussion law.

Yours in Soccer,
The Cincinnati United Soccer Club Board & Staff
